Thinking on it a little more, I truly think this is the quintessential "Miguel" story. There's a certain romantic air of mystique the pervades your settings, which really shines when you write a period piece.

I also love when you give rich descriptions of your characters, even down to the contents of their bags. The paragraph that describes everything Jack carries in his travel gear serves perfectly to both establish the flavor of the time period, and tells us so much about Jack as a character.

Speaking of characters, we have three characters who we see in just a little snapshot, but learn so much about them. And even though story leaves much unanswered, it ends on such a resonant note. One of your best!

This is still one of my favorites of yours. Truly one of my greatest writing regrets is not writing a Western alongside you and Sami that year

ㅠㅠ.
